  • Resumen
    • Given the initial acoustic criteria for a façade element, improving the sound reduction index of an existing building element, a window glazing is analysed and improvements were introduced in order to achieve competitive advantage when acoustic insulation is determinant factor when choosing a solution. At a first stage, an evaluation of the existing frame and chosen glass was made, to estimate the soundreduction index. Preliminary correction measures were defined. A scaled window sample was then acoustically evaluated through sound intensity level measurements and its transmission loss determined. A test rack was built and the measurements were made at a semi-anechoic chamber. The measurements results analysis allowed leakages and weak points identification. Panel junctions showed critical. Additional insulation measures were then introduced and real dimension model was sent to a certified laboratory, to perform standard laboratory measures according to ISO standard 140-3:1998. Finally, the laboratory measurements were compared with the initial intensity measurements and the initial criteria.
