La Sima de Cabra es conocida mundialmente a gracias a El Quijote; sin embargo, también ha de serlo porque en ésta se originó la espeleología científica y el espeleosocorro.
En este artículo reivindicamos la Sima de Cabra como la primera cavidad a nivel mundial donde se realizó un espeleosocorro (del cual tenemos constancia documental), siendo a propósito del mismo, el primer descenso mundial a una vertical absoluta. El protagonista de aquel suceso fue el egabrense Fernando Muñoz Romero.
En este trabajo revelaremos las diligencias judiciales completas, suplementado con comentarios y apuntes históricos.
