In this work, a study by DTA-TG, dilatometrie analysis, infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy on the thermal behaviour of pyrophyllite, has been carried out. The formation of pyrophyllite dehydroxylated is established after 1050°C and its permanency above this temperature, with no changes in morphollogical features. When thermal treatment is progressive at higher temperature there is formation and crystallization of mullite, besides cristobalite. This treatment produces a new microstructure.
