Els cavallers i l’estament militar en els sermons de fra Vicent Ferrer

    Sant Vicent Ferrer, immers en una societat urbana i cavalleresca, adornava els sermons amb imatges i metàfores cavalleresques. Així mateix, i amb afany moralitzant, presentava una imatge estereotipada del cavaller: ufanós, iracund, luxuriós. Tot i respectar el paper de l’estament cavalleresc com un dels pilars de la cristiandat, arremetia contra els milites viciosos i pecadors del 1400, alhora que cooperava amb el patriciat urbà de València en la pacificació de les enquistades bandositats. El seu paper en el Compromís de Casp, on propicià l’entronització de Ferran I, contribuiria —mitjançant les reformes impulsades pel nou sobirà en l’elecció d’oficis municipals— a despolititzar les bandositats.

    St. Vicent Ferrer, immersed in a urban and chivalric society, adorned his sermons with chivalric images and metaphors. Thus, and with moralising aim, he portrayed an stereotyped image of the knights: proud, irascible and lustful. Although he respected the role of chivalric estate as one of the pillars of Christianity, he charged at the vicious and sinner milites from 1400 while he cooperated with the urban patriciate in València in bringing peace to the never understanding sides. His role in the Casp Agreement, where he favoured the enthronement of Ferran I, would contribute —by means of the reforms driven by the new souvereign in the election of local occupations— to depoliticize the different sides.
