    El objetivo de este trabajo es analizar los avances fundamentales que se están dando en la política europea durante los últimos tres años con la puesta en práctica de elementos fundamentales que permiten el nacimiento y desarrollo de la Política de Defensa Europea ante el nuevo ciclo político y los efectos que éste va a tener durante la próxima legislatura 2019-24 del Parlamento Europeo.

    La hipótesis en la que se sustenta este análisis es que ha habido un cambio de percepción en la ciudadanía europea y en los líderes políticos sobre la necesidad de su puesta en marcha. Por ello, se han dado pasos esenciales a partir de la presentación de la Estrategia Global para la Política Exterior y de Seguridad de 28 de junio de 2016 en la que se propone el principio de autonomía estratégica, que significa que Europa debe tener la capacidad de defenderse de forma autónoma.

    The aim of this work is to analyse the fundamental advances that have been taking place in European politics in the last three years with the implementation of fundamental elements that allow the birth and development of the European Defence Policy in the tace of the new polítical cycle and the effects that it will have during the next legislative period 2019-24 of the European Parliament. The hypothesis on which this analysis is based is that there has been a change in the perception ot European citizens and of the political leaders about the need far its implementation. Therefore, fundamental steps have been taken since the presentation ot the Global Strategy far the European Union's Foreign and Security Policy of June 28, 2016 in which the principle ot strategic autonomy is proposed, which means that Europe must have the capacity to defend itself autonomously.
