The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) within the 2030 Agenda of the United Nations require, among other measures, to strengthen a citizenship aware of its eco-dependence and committed to the well-being and quality of universal life. Education for sustainable development facilitates this measure. The article argues for this approach articulating answers to questions such as: Which type of citizenship could meet the objectives of the Agenda? Which features does it need to cultivate? Which educational implications are derived from it? Which aspects will education have to contemplate in order to promote this type of citizenship, which is actively committed to the ecological and social transition towards sustainability? How to accomplish this task? Which strategies should be arbitrated so that education can contribute to the achievement of the SDGs?
