Un sello dedicado a San Juan de Dios.: Arte religioso y los comienzos de los “juaninos” en Cádiz

  En este breve artículo ofrecemos noticia del sello dedicado a San Juan de Dios, que hemos realizado en Cádiz aprovechando la oportunidad que ofrece a los ciudadanos Correos con su sección “Tu Sello”. Para la realización del mismo se ha utilizado la imagen de la talla, realizada en el siglo XVII por Francisco de Villegas, que se encuentra en la Iglesia de San Juan de Dios de Cádiz. En el sello se destaca a San Juan de Dios como Patrón de la Enfermería. Con este sello también se quiere recordar a los Hermanos de la Orden que desde finales del siglo XVI han realizado su labor hospitalaria con necesitados y enfermos en la ciudad de Cádiz.

  This brief article reports on the new commemorative postage stamp issued in honor of Saint John of God in Cádiz thanks to the “Your Stamp” section of the Spanish post mail service Correos. The stamp shows Francisco de Villegas’ carving of Saint John of God, Patron Saint of Nurses. The original carving dates back to the seventeenth century and is currently located in the Church of Saint John of God in Cádiz. This commemorative stamp is also issued in honor of the Brothers Hospitallers of Saint John of God who, from the late 16 th century, have carried out their work looking after the sick and needy in the southern city of Cádiz.
