Resumen de Cristianismo y civilización: imposición y resistencia en las misiones católicas. Colombia, siglos XIX y XX

  En el artículo se analizan los sentidos que tuvo el concepto de civilización en Colombia en el contexto de la labor misional, en las últimas décadas del siglo XIX y las primeras décadas del siglo XX, a la vez que se contrastan tales sentidos con la manera como los pueblos indígenas del presente interpretan dicho proceso. En la primera parte se indaga sobre el concepto de civilización en relación con el adjetivo cristiana con el que se le acompaña y con las nociones de adelanto y progreso que le otorgan un horizonte de expectativa particular; en la segunda, se estudia el tipo de prácticas que dicho concepto autoriza, estrategias que buscaban transformar a los indígenas en católicos y ciudadanos. Por último, se reflexiona sobre la perspectiva de análisis que abre la interpelación que hacen los hombres y mujeres indígenas de los pueblos inga, kamëntsá y arhuaco al proyecto misional.

  The article analyzes the meanings that the concept of civilization had in Colombia in the context of missionary work at the end of the 19th century and beginning of the 20th, while contrasting said meanings with the way in which the indigenous peoples of the present interpret this process. In the first part, the concept of civilization is inquired in relation to the adjective "Christian", with which it is accompanied, and to the notions of advancement and progress that grants it a horizon of expectation; in the second, the type of practices that this concept authorizes are studied, as strategies that seek to transform indigenous peoples into Catholics and citizens. Finally, we reflect on the perspective of analysis that opens the interpellation made by indigenous men and women to the missionary project.
