  This article aims to present the criticism of the introspective method in psychology and reflecting on the relevance and necessity of this method regarding the intric ate issue of Self. Therefore, it is presented the Phenomenological Cognitive of Self conscious States Interview (EFEA), a First Person instrument and that will be detailed in its structure. EFEA is a standardized script to investigate and describe the set of phenomena inherent to self awareness and its cognitive mediations (mental imagery and inner speech) in interaction with different parameters of consciousness of Vigil and Uncommon States. There are three main criticisms of the introspective method , nam ely, (a) on the relationship between thinking and behavior, the apprehension of any fact would take a retrospective approach, a posteriori ; (b ) the thought is inner occurrence and that can only be accessed by those who live it, that is, the agent of intros pection is the subject; (c ) even if the introspection is possible, as a method, its fragility lies in the accuracy of reports about the lived processes. The EFEA, before of the historical criticism in relation of introspection, responded revealing to be ab le to promote access to internal life, having methodological robustness and phenomenal apprehension of the highlighted object in this article Thus the EFEA legitimate First Person methods in direction to stimulate the efforts in contemporary research of t he conscious and self conscious processes.

  Este artigo tem como objetivo apresentar as críticas ao método introspectivo em Psicologia e refletindo sobre a pertinência e necessidade deste método no tocante a intricada questão do Self. Para isso, é apresentada a Entrevista Fenomenológico-Cognitiva dos Estados Autoconscientes (EFEA), instrumento este em primeira pessoa e que será detalhado em sua estrutura. A EFEA é um roteiro padronizado a fim de investigar e descrever o conjunto de fenômenos inerentes a autoconsciência e as mediações cognitivas (imagens mentais e fala interna), na interação com diferentes parâmetros da consciência de Vigília e Estados Incomuns. São três as principais críticas em relação ao método introspectivo, a saber, (a) diante da relação entre pensamento e comportamento, a apreensão de qualquer fato se daria numa abordagem retrospectiva, a posteriori; (b) o pensamento é ocorrência interior e que pode ser somente acessada por quem a vive, ou seja, o agente da introspecção é o sujeito; (c) mesmo que a introspecção seja possível, enquanto método sua fragilidade residiria na precisão dos relatos a respeito dos processos vividos. A EFEA, diante das críticas históricas em relação a introspecção, respondeu revelando ser capaz de promover acesso a vida interna, tendo robustez metodológica e apreensão fenomenal do objeto em tela. Diante disso a EFEA legitima os métodos em primeira pessoa de modo a estimular os esforços na investigação contemporânea sobre os processos conscientes e autoconscientes
