Turismo de pobreza e infancia. Reflexiones desde la educación para la ciudadanía global

    La prensa nacional e internacional, así como distintos medios de opinión, muestran numerosas evidencias que resaltan la preocupación por la expansión del turismo de pobreza, sobre todo porque puede resultar lesivo para las poblaciones de determinados destinos turísticos y, particularmente, para la infancia de los mismos. Sin embargo, no resultan muy frecuentes las investigaciones sobre esta temática, salvo en lo referente a las visitas de barrios marginales.Esta situación ha llevado a considerar la necesidad de abordar tal problemática en este trabajo, con el objetivo de analizar los rasgos que identifican al turismo de pobreza y de los límites que debería encontrar para su desarrollo, tanto desde la perspectiva legal, que protege los derechos de las personas y especialmente los de los niños, como desde la concepción ética, que debe exigirse a todos los actores implicados en la actividad turística, a partir de los distintos códigos éticos existentes. Asimismo, se buscan estrategias que mejoren esta práctica turística y se llega a concluir que la educación para la ciudadanía global puede aportar determinadas claves que contribuyen a formar en valores y que su implementación en la gestión turística favorecería la configuración de ofertas y productos turísticos cuyos beneficios revertirían en las poblaciones de acogida.

    The national and international press and different opinion media show numerous evidences that highlight the concern for the expansion poverty tourism, especially because it can be harmful for the populations of certain tourist destinations and, particularly, for their childhood. However, research on this subject is not very frequent, except with regard to visits to slums.This situation has led to consider the need to address this problem in this work, with the aim of analyzing the characteristics that identify poverty tourism and the limits that it should find for its development, both from the legal perspective, which protects the rights of the people and especially those of the children, as from the ethical conception, that must be demanded to all the actors involved in the tourist activity, from the different existing ethical codes. Also, strategies that improve this tourist practice are sought and it is concluded that education for global citizenship can provide certain keys that contribute to form values and that its implementation in tourism management would favor the configuration of tourism offers and products whose benefits would reverse in the host populations.
