Resumen de Detritai modes in the Paleogene Turbidites of the Pienides in Maramures (Eastern Carpathians - Northern Romania)

C. Aroldi

  • The Tethyan Suture is represented in the Eastern Carpathians by two groups of units, the Transylvanides and the Pienides. In Maramures, the Pienides are formed by cover nappes subdivided in four groups of tectonic units: the Magura Croup, the Pieniny Klippen Zone, the Botiza and Kricevo units and the Babesti - Tijacovo Unit. Arenites from the Lapus Nappe (Magura Croup) and from the Botiza Nappe were examined for modal analysis. Four different petrofacies were identified. In particular, data for the Lapus Nappe show a vertical transition from litharenitic to arkosic facies, probably related to a progressive unroofing of a continental crust belonging to the Inner Dacides. Modal analysis for the Botiza Nappe show a typical litharenitic composition with abundant fragments of basalts and sedimentary clasts of oceanic domain. A sediment supply from the innermost Babesti-Tijacovo Unit (intercepted only by drills), which shows a typical ophiolitic succession, can be considered realistic for the arenites of this nappe.
