Consciência identitária dos propósitos e meios do Serviço Social: resultados de um estudo empírico dos assistentes sociais

    Este artigo tem como objetivo apresentar parte dos resultados empíricos de uma pesquisa, não baseada em uma amostra representativa, aplicada a assistentes sociais no norte de Portugal. Foi aplicado um questionário para se obter informações sobre a consciência discursiva que esses profissionais têm da relação entre conhecimento formal e identidade profissional, por meio do uso que fazem dos seus conhecimentos sobre os grandes propósitos e meios de intervenção social no seu contexto de trabalho. A seleção dos dois temas para este estudo empírico justifica-se porque, hipoteticamente, se entendeu serem gerais e transversais a todos os setores da atividade do serviço social e que, portanto, podem ter maior valor institucional para apoiar e fortalecer a identidade profissional. Como tal, os dados apresentados pretendiam responder a duas hipóteses: a) conhecer o grau de consistência e unidade que existe entre o conhecimento sobre a finalidade e o conhecimento sobre os meios de intervenção; b) conhecer o grau de transversalidade e homogeneidade existente no uso desse conhecimento, considerando a formação institucional, linha geracional e a variação setorial da atividade. As principais conclusões são que existe um grau suficientemente alto de consistência e transversalidade no uso desse conhecimento para apoiar o fortalecimento de uma identidade profissional no serviço social.

    This article aims to present part of the empirical results of a survey not based on a representative sample applied to social workers in northern Portugal. A questionnaire was applied to obtain information about the discursive awareness that these professionals have of the relationship between formal knowledge and professional identity through the use they make of their knowledge about the great purposes and means of social intervention in their work context. The selection of these two themes for this empirical study is justified because, hypothetically, were found to be the most general and cross all sectors of social work activity and that, therefore, may have greater institutional value to support and strengthen professional identity. As a result, the data presented were intended to answer two hypotheses: a) to know the degree of consistency and unity that exists between the knowledge about the purpose and the knowledge about the means of intervention; b) to know the degree of transversality and homogeneity that exists in the use of this knowledge considering the generational, institutional formation and sectorial variation of activity. The main conclusions are that there is a sufficiently high degree of consistency and transversality in the use of this knowledge to support the strengthening of a professional identity in social work.
