  En este trabajo se presentan brevemente cinco crónicas de jesuitas sobre la Compañía de Jesús en las Filipinas (1581-1768). Pese a ser crónicas generalistas, dedicadas especialmente al relato hagiográfico de la labor de la Compañía en el archipiélago, nuestro trabajo se centra en presentar los diversos estilos y formas de entender el papel que las descripciones de la naturaleza del archipiélago debían jugar en las crónicas oficiales del quehacer de la Compañía en esa particular frontera imperial hispánica.

  This paper introduces five Jesuit chronicles about the activities of the Society of Jesus in the Philippines between 1581 and 1768. Although its chronicles were essentially dedicated to the apologetical narrative of the Society's missionary action in the archipelago, our analysis focuses on the search for the different ways used in these works to construct a natural history of the Philippines, looking for the role that descriptions of the nature of the archipelago would play in the official chronicle of the Society of Jesus mission in the Philippines, considering this particular Hispanic imperial border as "contact zone" for a complex cultural exchange.
