Priorización de áreas de conservación y protección de la biodiversidad vegetal de la Comunidad Valenciana (España)

    Esta comunicación tiene como ámbito de actuación la Comunidad Valenciana cuya vegetación destaca por su gran variabilidad y riqueza. La importancia de su diversidad vegetal radica en el elevado número de taxones y endemismos que posee. Esto, unido a la problemática que padece con la sobreexplotación de los suelos y los incendios forestales, han sido los motivos de la elección de este territorio para la realización de este estudio. El trabajo pretende clasificar el territorio de la Comunidad Valenciana en función de su potencial de biodiversidad. Para ello se ha escogido la distribución potencial de 144 especies actualmente presentes en dicho territorio teniendo en cuenta los endemismos ibéricos y valencianos, las especies con alguna figura de protección y aquellas que pertenecieran al estrato arbóreo. La selección de las especies, así como la obtención de la distribución potencial de las mismas, han sido realizadas en estudio más amplio no incluido en esta comunicación. Se utilizó ArcGis para superponer las capas con la distribución potencial de las especies elegidas y se obtuvo una clasificación del territorio asignando un índice en función del número de especies que potencialmente podrían desarrollarse en él. Los resultados ponen de relieve zonas del territorio valenciano, en las que la mayor parte de las especies encuentran las condiciones bioclimáticas idóneas. Éstas, a pesar de contar con una biodiversidad muy elevada, no poseen ninguna figura de protección. Por ello, han sido propuestas para la inclusión en una figura de protección existente o la adopción de medidas legales que salvaguarden el potencial de riqueza florística que poseen, porque pueden servir de nexo de unión entre zonas actualmente protegidas como son los Lugares de Importancia Comunitaria de la Comunidad Valenciana.

    The scope of this paper is the Valencian region (Spain). Its vegetation stands out for its great variety and richness. The importance of its plant diversity lies both in the high number of taxa as in the endemisms it has. Besides of this, problems of overexploitation of land, and forest fires that afflicting this region, have been the reasons for the choice of this territory to carry out this study. The paper aims to classify the territory of Valencia in function of its biodiversity potential. For this we have chosen the potential distribution of 144 species currently present in that territory considering the endemisms Iberian and Valencian, species with some kind of protection and those that belong to the tree layer. The selection of species, as well as obtaining their potential distribution, are part of a larger study and therefore are not included in this communication. ArcGIS was used to overlay layers with the potential distribution of the selected species. A territory classification was obtained by assigning an index depending on the number of species that potentially could grow on it. The results highlight areas of the Valencian region, where most of the species are suitable bioclimatic conditions. These, in spite of having a very high biodiversity, do not have any kind of protection. So they have been proposed to be included in an existing protection network or to adopt legal measures to safeguard the species richness potential they have. This can serve as an union nexus between existing protected areas such as Sites of Importance Community of Valencian Region.
