The present article aims to analyze the meaning of Ἑλληνισμός in 2 Maccabees, perceiving this use within a context of the re-signification of the term in the Hellenistic period. With this intention, we analyze the original meaning of Ἑλληνισμός in relation to the verb Ἑλληνίζω and its transformation over time, especially in the Hellenistic context. Also, the article analyzes the meaning that the terms related to Βαρβαρισμός and Ἕλληνες have in 2 Maccabees and its importance in establishing a new meaning for Ἑλληνισμός in this book.

O presente artigo visa analisar o significado de Ἑλληνισμός em 2 Macabeus, percebendo tal uso dentro de um contexto de ressignificação do termo no período helenístico. Para isto, se analisa o sentido original de Ἑλληνισμός em relação ao verbo Ἑλληνίζω e sua transformação ao longo do tempo, especialmente no contexto helenístico. Também, se busca analisar o sentido que os termos relacionados a Βαρβαρισμός e Ἕλληνες têm em 2 Macabeus e sua importância no estabelecimento de um novo sentido para Ἑλληνισμός neste livro.
