Resumen de De la era primitiva de la fotografía a su modernidad: Franck de Villecholle (1816-1906)

men1 Citado con frecuencia por la historiografía hispano-francesa, Franck de Villecholle reúne la condición de fotógrafo extranjero en los inicios del daguerrotipo en España y de retratista exitoso en la age d’ôr de la cdv en París. No obstante, su caso ofrece otros estudios posibles: las transferencias geográficas-comerciales de la fotografía, así como su acercamiento e interacción con campos de fuerte legitimación como eran la ciencia y, en especial, el arte. Una circulación de lo fotográfico que ya encontramos ilustrado en los años de Franck en Barcelona (c. 1849-1865), foco de análisis de la presente comunicación, y que madurarán en su período parisino (c. 1859-1906). En conclusión, Franck puede ser entendido como el tipo ideal de la versatilidad profesional y cultural del fotógrafo y, por extensión, del dispositivo, desde la era primitiva de la fotografía hasta su modernidad.

Franck is a commonly cited photographer in Franco-Hispanic historiography. He was the archetypal foreign photographer at the dawn of daguerreotype in Spain as well as a successful portraitist in the golden age of carte-de-visite in Paris. That being said, interest in him is limitless and offers other perspectives of study: the geographical and commercial transferences of photography, not to mention the portraitist approach and interaction within strongly legitimised fields such as sciences and particularly, art. This circulation of the photographic is already illustrated in Franck’s Barcelona years (c. 1849-1865), which is the main focus of this paper, and increasingly matured in his Parisian period (c. 1859-1906). Thus, Franck can be understood as an example of the professional and cultural versatility of photographers and of the medium itself, within the framework of its primitiveness and moving gradually towards its modernity.
