  • Resumen
    • The geomorphology of the central sector on the coastal side of the Tramuntana Range (Majorca) is determined by an intense slope dynamism. The landscape is characterised by several blocks of rock being carried along the steep slopes of this littoral. These blocks show a process named “ block spread”, which is a landslide type controlled by the geology in the area. They affectthe rock formation composed of limestone and dolostone of Lower Jurassic (Lias) which tops a softer underlying material, the clays and marls of Upper Triassic (Keuper). The lateral extension causes the fracture of the rock mass into several blocks, more than 100 m in height and 50.000 m3 in volume, which displace, very slowly, over the soft and plastic materials. U/Th dating techniques have been carried out on a sample of pure calcite cementing breccias genetically associated with these great blocks. A Late Pleistocene age of 82,5 x 103 years has been obtained, which reveals that this process has been active, at least, since this age.
