  • The Arroyo de Gor is a highly incised canyon (up to 200 m) into the Pliocene-Pleistocene infill of the Guadix basin. This canyon has been developed by a combination of entrenchment and landslides. Initial entrenchment (up to 150 m) is tentatively related to the capture of the Guadix basin by the Guadalquivir river in the Holocene. After this initial entrenchment, the canyon was enlarged by several rotational landslides. Finally, the Arroyo de Gor restarted its vertical incision (up to 50 m) by removing the frontal parts of the landslides. The rates deduced for these processes are very high (between 5 and 18 mm/yr) according to the available ages. This fact suggests that the entrenchment of the Arroyo de Gor could be related to climatic and/or tectonic processes, in addition to the capture of the Guadix basin.
