  • Resumen
    • The level by level sampling of a section located in the Sierra de Cambrones (External Subbetic Domain, province of Murcia) has furnished a rich ammonite fauna which has allowed to recognize the Verrucosum Zone (Peregrinus Subzone) and the Trinodosum Zone (Nicklesi and Furcillata Subzones), corresponding to the middle part of the Upper Valanginian, and, directly overlying the latter, the Nodosoplicatum Zone (upper part of the Lower Hauterivian). Therefore, a stratigraphic discontinuity, embracing the uppermost Valanginian (Cal I ¡discus Zone) and the lower part of the Hauterivian (Radiatus and Loryi Zones) can be revealed. Stratigraphic breaks of similar age had been frequently referred from other paleogeographic domains (Prebetic and Penibetic), but rarely recognized in the Subbetic. This stratigraphic discontinuity would have been generated on a pelagic swell (probably connected to the adjacent Prebetic platform) during a relative low sea-level period.
