El artículo propone el análisis de las investigaciones históricas y antropológicas acerca de los wixaritari para explicar la manera en los éstos han sido caracterizados en las crónicas tempranas. El objetivo es hacer un balance para destacar cómo se han realizado la búsqueda de las primeras noticias de los wixaritari, mostrar algunas asociaciones que resultan cuestionables y sugerir algunas alternativas. Además, el análisis nos permitirá dar cuenta de una habitual dispersión de los asentamientos, que es de enorme interés para comprender las interacciones entre los nativos y los conquistadores.

The article proposes the analysis of the historical and anthropological research about the wixaritari to explainhow they have been characterized in the early chronicles. The objective is to take stock to highlight how the search for the first news of the wixaritari has been carried out, to show some associations that are questionable and suggest some alternatives. In addition, the analysis will allow us to account for the habitual dispersion of the settlements, which is of great interest to understand the interactions between the natives and the conquerors.

O objetivo é fazer um balanço para destacar como foi realizada a busca pelas primeiras notícias do wixaritari, mostrar algumas associações questionáveis e sugerir alternativas. Além disso, a análise nos permitirá explicar uma dispersão habitual dos assentamentos, o que é de grande interesse para entender as interações entre os nativos e os conquistadores.
