    Until then a neglected and even negated topic by the scholars of preceding times, the topic of the obscure representations of the human soul is given by Baumgarten, and even more decisively by Kant, a rather disruptive yet also more dignified treatment, one which affirms the topic’s new condition and role in a more profound cognition of human consciousness. The objective of the present essay is therefore to observe the traits of Kant’s collocation of the topic as a problem of human consciousness; to attempt to discern the apparent contradiction which, according to Kant, is at the heart of obscure representations and thus renders more difficult said collocation of the topic among the inferior powers of the spirit, and finally, to show how the previous dilemma is dissolved by the natural poeticity of obscure representations, which not only expounds the problem as a non-problem, but rather uses its beneficious potentialities to redefine the importance of obscure representations and the whole status of the obscure, the unconscious and the irrational in general.

    Até então negligenciado e até negado pelos eruditos, o tópico das representações obscuras da alma humana recebe com Baumgarten, e ainda mais decisivamente com Kant, um deveras disruptivo, mas também mais digno tratamento, que afirma esse tópico no seu novo estatuto e papel e possibilita um mais profundo conhecimento da consciência humana. O objectivo do presente ensaio é, por conseguinte, observar os traços da exposição kantiana do tópico como problema da consciência humana; procurar discernir a aparente contradição que, segundo Kant, está encerrada nas representações obscuras e dificulta essa mesma colocação entre as inferiores e superiores faculdades do espírito, e, por fim, mostrar como o dilema é dissolvido pela natural poeticidade das representações obscuras, a qual não só expõe o problema como um não-problema, mas antes se alavanca nas suas benéficas potencialidades para redefinir a importância das representações obscuras e todo o estatuto do obscuro, do inconsciente e do irracional em geral.
