    Juan de León y Castillo fue el responsable del proyecto definitivo y de la dirección de las obras de construcción del Puerto de la Luz y Las Palmas. Esto último se debe a la propuesta realizada por la empresa inglesa Swanston and Company, contratista de las citadas obras, plasmada en el contrato firmado por ambas partes en 1891. En este trabajo se pretende poner de manifiesto la complicada relación existente entre el ingeniero y la empresa contratista, como consecuencia de las discrepancias entre las cláusulas del contrato y su posterior aplicación, circunstancias detectadas por Juan de León y Castillo y que afectaban a sus intereses económicos. Para conseguir tal fin presentamos el estudio que hemos efectuado sobre el análisis comparativo que realiza Juan de León y Castillo del contrato y de los acuerdos previos al mismo, incidiendo de manera especial en las cláusulas de contenido económico y contable.Juan de León and Castillo was the person in charge of the definitive project and of the direction of the works of building of the Puerto de la Luz y Las Palmas.

    The above mentioned owes to the offer realized by the English enterprise Swanston and Company, contractor of the mentioned works, formed of the contract signed by both parts in 1891. In this work contractor tries to reveal the complicated existing relation between the engineer and the company, as consequence of the discrepancies between the clauses of the contract and his later application, circumstances detected by Juan de León y Castillo and that were concerning his economic interests. To obtain such a end let's sense beforehand the study that we have effected on the comparative analysis that realizes Juan de León and Castillo of the contract and of the agreements before the same one, affecting in a special way in the clauses of economic and countable content.
