Pousadas de Portugal: entre albergue de carretera y parador

    Hoy en día existe la idea generalizada de que las Pousadas de Portugal son lo mismo que los Paradores españoles. El hecho de ser estructuras creadas por iniciativa estatal y, en su mayoría, instaladas en edificios o conjuntos monumentales ha contribuido a esa interpretación. Pero la verdad es que, en su origen, estos dos proyectos innovadores de construcción de una red hotelera oficial de carácter nacional son claramente distintos. El enfoque de este artículo se centra en dilucidar lo que distingue y acerca estos dos conceptos.

    Rumbo al Centenario de los Paradores en el 2028 y frente a la creciente pérdida de identidad de las Pousadas de Portugal, es urgente replantear lo que caracteriza estas estructuras en la contemporaneidad. ¿Cuál es la singularidad, el significado cultural y el valor añadido de esta red de edificios? Sólo cuando tengamos la respuesta a estas cuestiones podremos hablar con rigor y conocimiento del futuro de las Pousadas y de los Paradores.

    Today there is the generalized idea that the Pousadas de Portugal is the same as the Spanish Paradores. The fact of being structures created by state initiative and, for the most part, installed in buildings or monumental complexes has contributed to that interpretation. But the truth is that, originally, these two innovative projects for the construction of an official hotel network of national character are clearly different. It is on what distinguishes and approaches these two concepts that the focus of this article is centered.

    Towards the Paradores centenary in 2028 and facing the increasing loss of identity of the Pousadas de Portugal, it is urgent to redefine what characterizes these structures in contemporary times. What is the singularity, the cultural significance and the added value of this network of buildings? Only when we have the answer to these questions we can speak with accuracy and knowledge of the future of Pousadas and Paradores.
