Resumen de Secuencias de depósito en el Neógeno de la Cuenca del Mar Menor (Alicante - Murcia, SE de España)

Wenceslao Martínez del Olmo, Ana Serrano Oñate

  • Outcrop and subsurface data allowed differentiation of several Deposition al Sequences and System Tracts within the Late Langhian - Pliocen e sedimentary record. Three main conclusions have been obtained: I ) DS 's and ST 's identified in the Mar Menor basin (Alboran Terrane) exhibit very good chronostratigraphic correlation with those already defined in the Gulf of Valencia (Betic marine foreland basin) and the Corredor of Crevillen te (External Betic Terrane). The homogeneity of the data from the five DS 's identified and the consistency of the correlation done among three different areas, each having been exposed to quite different tectonic regimes, strongly suggest that sea level variations were the main cause of the Depositional Sequences and System Tracts sedimentary arrangement. 2) Two reefal complexes were identified: possible fringing reefs in Late Langhian-Serravallian age and isolate Messinian patch reefs. 3) Forthe first time, the Messinian un conformity (S B1) with incised valley in filled by high energy deposits and the correlative LST marine sediments have been identified and interpreted under a sequence - stratigraphical point of view in the Spanish Mediterranean margin.
