  • Resumen
    • Landslide and slope stability problems are studied in some roads in El Hierro, La Palma and La Gomera islands in the Canary archipiélago. The topography is very abrupt, and develop high slopes in several kind of volcanic materials, specially in old roads. These slopes have great stability problems. There are some geomechanic classifications in non volcanic materials but are inappropriate in these particular areas. In this paper we propose a new specific methodology for slope risk classification where we consider the dangerousness of slides, rock fall, etc and the hazard of it happen. We use the slope geometry, the size of blocks, the degree of weathering, the presence of water, vegetation and degradable layers, the existence of problems and solutions and the risk of third party affection as factors to determine the level of risk and find solutions.

We compare this classification with the Bieniawski (1979) classification and have a good correlation.
