A fractal approach to the study of cyclicity of three stratigraphic sections of Upper Turonian-Lower Coniacian age at SE of Burgos province (Spain) is presented in this paper. Selected sections have a complete sedimentary succession being composed o f bioclastic, detrital and nodular limestones and marls. The main characteristic of these sections is the presence of planar, parallel bedding all along the section despite o f the different facies. Some o f the strata thickness distribution conform to a power law distribution of the form N = C tD, where N is the number of strata with a thickness > t, which may be interpreted in terms o f scale-invariant. Other sequences show log-normal thickness distribution which can be interpreted as length (thickness)-dependent scaling. The preliminary results show that fractal analysis may be o f critical importance in the sequential analysis to quantify the dynamics o f the Cretaceous carbonate platform in the Iberian Mountain Range.
