    The existence in Latium of an archaic centre known as Solonium is only explicitly attested by Dionysius of Halicarnassus (2, 37, 2). Dionysius mentions it as the place of origin of Lucumo (from other sources identified with Tarquinius Priscus), who came to the aid of Romulus in the war against the Sabines, and gave his name to one of the three tribes of Romulus, the Luceres. A reminder of this centre (after his early death) is preserved in the continuing existence of an ager Solonius (where Pomonal was situated) which did not lie in the territory of Lanuvium (as stated in Cic., div. 1.36.79: a clear error for Lavinium in the manuscript tradition). This is demonstrated by Fest. 298 L., where the ager Solonius is situated at the eighth mile of a diverticulum which split off from the tenth mile of the via Ostiensis. Here, in effect, in the site of Castel di Decima, was an ancient settlement, mistakenly identified (from Nibby onwards) with Politorium, which instead is to be identified as Solonium.

    L’esistenza nel Lazio di un centro arcaico di nome Solonium è attestata esplicitamente solo da Dionigi di Alicarnasso (2, 37, 2), che lo menziona come luogo di provenienza di Lucumo (da altre fonti identificato con Tarquinio Prisco), intervenuto in aiuto di Romolo nella guerra contro i Sabini, che avrebbe dato nome a una delle tre tribù romulee, i Luceres. Memoria di esso (dopo la sua precoce scomparsa) si conserva nella persistenza di un ager Solonius, che non va localizzato nel territorio di Lanuvium (come in Cic., Div. 1.36.79: evidente errore della tradizione manoscritta per Lavinium). Ciò è dimostrato da Fest. 298 L., dove l’ager Solonius (in cui si trovava il Pomonal) è situato all’ottavo miglio di un diverticolo che si staccava dal decimo miglio della via Ostiense. Qui si trovava in effetti, nel sito di Castel di Decima, un abitato arcaico, erroneamente identificato (a partire da Nibby) con Politorium, nel quale si deve invece identificare Solonium.
