Resumen de Dominicos valencianos: la traducción misionera como aportación al conocimiento de América y Extremo Oriente

David Pérez Blázquez

  • The anthropological work carried out by the missionary translators, despite its pioneering nature, has been partially recognized. The purpose of this research is to show how the Dominicans of Valencia contributed to the knowledge of America and Asia through translation, understood in a broad sense. For this, the intercultural and heterogeneous mediating character of the missionary writings is highlighted, vindicating their study in the field of the history of translation. The work of the Valencian missionaries is contextualized in that of the Order as a whole, and some notes on the life and translational work of a score of them are provided.
