Resumen de Probit models for grouped-data migration flows: a theoretical note

  En esta nota teórica, proponemos el modelo GProbit como una alternativa a los modelos gravitacionales para estimar flujos de datos agrupados. Este es un modelo basado en la teoría de la utilidad aleatoria, que es consistente con el principio de comportamiento de la población. En lugar de conteos de migrantes, la variable dependiente del modelo de flujos GProbit consiste en una serie de proporciones observadas. Permite explicar la propensión a migrar de cualquier origen a un destino, que es un concepto relativo interesante que no se ve afectado por el efecto tamaño. Por este motivo, se espera que tenga un mejor ajuste y menos problemas de no normalidad, como ilustra una aplicación para los flujos migratorios internos de las regiones españolas.

  In this theoretical note, we propose the GProbit model as an alternative to gravity models to esti-mate grouped-data flows. This is a model based on the random utility theory, which is consistentwith the principle of population behavior. Instead of migrant counts, the dependent variable ofthe GProbit model of flows consists of a number of observed proportions. It allows explaining thepropensity to migrate from any origin to a destination, which is an interesting relative conceptnot affected by the size effect. For this reason, it is expected to have better fit and less problemsof non-normality, as illustrated by an application for the internal migration flows of the Spanishregions.
