Este ensayo ofrece una interpretación sobre la etapa final de la Inquisición en Perú, analiza la supresión ordenada por las Cortes de Cádiz y muestra la importancia de la difusión de la literatura antiinquisitorial durante el gobierno del virrey Fernando de Abascal. El autor sostiene que el tribunal limeño se mantuvo activo durante la crisis, pero no fue capaz de contrarrestar el gran legado de esta etapa: la leyenda negra construida sobre la propia Inquisición española.

This essay analyzes the final phase of the Inquisition in Peru. It discusses the suppression ordered by the Cortes de Cádiz and shows the importance of the dissemination of anti-inquisitorial literature during the government of Viceroy Abascal. Although the Tribunal of Lima stayed active during the crisis of the Monarchy, it was unable to face the challenge of what would prove to be the great legacy of the period: the Black Legend of the Spanish Inquisition.
