La proclamación de la Segunda República en España arrastró una gesta iconoclasta contra la monarquía y sus emblemas. Entre violencia y parodia, la erradicación de las marcas monárquicas del espacio público significó el derribo simbólico de la monarquía española que nunca afectó a la persona real, pero que, literalmente, dejó al Rey y a la monarquía al pie de la calle y del exilio.

The proclamation of the Second Republic in Spain triggered an iconoclastic reaction against the monarchy and its emblems. Between violence and parody, the eradication of signs of the monarchy in public areas represented the symbolic overthrow of the Spanish monarchy. It pushed the King and the monarchy out on the street and into exile without attacking the royal figure proper.
