    El Archivo Universitario nace como una necesidad ante la gran producción documental de la Universidad de Sevilla en el ejercicio de sus funciones docentes e investigadoras. El fondo documental que custodia es fuente primaria de investigación para conocer la historia de nuestra institución en particular, y la historia de la enseñanza superior en España. El fin de este artículo es dar a conocer cuáles han sido los inicios del archivo, ofrecer información sobre la documentación que custodia y su valor como fuente de información para la historia de la institución.

    The University archive is born as a necessity to the great documentary production of the University of Seville in the exercise of its teaching and research functions. The documentary fund that custody is the primary source of research to know the history of our institution and the history of higher education in Spain. The purpose of this article is to make known what the beginnings of the archive have been, to offer information about the documentation that custody and its value as a source of information for the history of the institution.
