  • Resumen
    • This paper examines different perspectives of residents engaged in social movements in auto-constructed neighbourhoods through an ethnography of the Caravana pelo Direito à Habitação, which travelled across the nation to collect testimonies and engage with local groups and associations in their struggles for housing. The project of the Caravana first emerged in 2016, and it was organized in the context of the Assembly of Residents of metropolitan neighbourhoods that consist of four neighbourhoods (bairros) - Torre and Quinta da Fonte (Loures), Jamaika (Seixal) and 6 de Maio (Amadora). Based on an on-going fieldwork, this paper is an ethnography of the common sociabilities created between residents, with different migrant trajectories and experiences in social movements, and how common claims and expectations are negotiated and produced in relation to contemporary racial segregation and social housing policies.
