Resumen de Representación y Crítica de la modernidad en Voegelin y Schmitt

Este artículo se centra en dos grandes pensadores políticos antiliberales del siglo veinte, Eric Voegelin y Carl Schmitt. Nuestra aproximación tiene lugar a partir del complejo concepto de representación. Explicamos primero la diferencia que establece Voegelin entre la representación existencial y trascendental; y después la visión de Carl Schmitt, y, en concreto, la tensión que encontramos en su obra entre el concepto católico y moderno de representación. Por último señalamos las principales diferencias y afinidades entre la teología política de Voegelin y Schmit.

This paper focuses on two great antiJliberal, political thinkers of the twentieth century: Eric Voegelin and Carl Schmitt. Our approach departs from the complex concept of “representation”. First we explain the difference between existential and transcendental representation, as put forward by Voegelin; then we present Carl Schmitt’s perspective, and more specifically the tension present in his work between the Catholic and modern conceptions of representation. Finally, we signal the main differences and affinities lying between Voegelin’s and Schmitt’s political theologies.
