El castillo de Tudején se sitúa en un lugar estratégico donde la llanura del valle del Ebro da paso a la zona montañosa de la sierra de Alcarama, que forma parte del Sistema Ibérico por cuyos caminos se accede a la meseta central de España. Zona estratégica de frontera durante siglos, allí se construyeron fortificaciones desde la época celtibérica hasta la anexión del Reino de Navarra. En ese contexto el castillo de Tudején es la fortificación de vida más prolongada, desde el Imperio Romano hasta el siglo XVI. Aquí damos a conocer los últimos resultados de nuestras investigaciones sobre este enclave, que comenzamos a estudiar en 1987, utilizando todas las fuentes textuales disponibles, los datos de nuestras investigaciones arqueológicas y la información reciente de imágenes satelitales y aéreas, que permiten delimitar mejor las estructuras del castillo y su función concreta, especialmente en la época medieval.

The castle of Tudején is located in a strategic place where the plain of the Ebro valley gives way to the mountainous area of the mountain range of Alcarama, which forms part of the Iberian System through whose paths one accedes to the central plateau of Spain. Strategic border zone for centuries, there were built fortifications from the Celtiberian period to the annexation of the Kingdom of Navarre. In this context the castle of Tudején is the fortification of widest chronology, from the Roman Empire to the sixteenth century. Here we present the latest results of our research on this enclave, which we began to study in 1987, using all available textual sources, data from our archaeological research and recent data of satellite and aerial images, which allow identify better the structures of the castle and its concrete function, especially in medieval times.
