La hegemonía del discurso experto ha levantado barreras físicas y simbólicas en torno a los restos arqueológicos, desplazando visiones y usos de carácter local rastreables a través de topónimos, leyendas y tradiciones. Partiendo de una práctica profesional socialmente comprometida, defendemos la necesidad de conocer y dar cabida a esas y otras maneras de entender y hacer uso del patrimonio arqueológico.
The hegemony of expert knowledge has led to the set up of physical and symbolic barriers around archaeological remains. As a consequence, local conceptions and uses of the past, as those seen in toponymy, legends and traditions, have been displaced. In the pages that follow it will be argued that there is a need to recognize and value these and other ways of understanding and using archaeological heritage, if we are to build a more socially engaged discipline.
