Este artículo recoge un análisis exhaustivo, de principio a fin, del famoso libro de Peter Singer Animal Liberation de 1975. Desde la perspectiva de la filosofía moral, este artículo critica las ideas sobre el trato animal que se desarrollan en dicho libro. El artículo delibera sobre el especismo, que Singer define como un prejuicio del hombre contra las otras especies, y presenta argumentos en contra de su opinión sobre el hecho de que los animales sean sujetos de derecho. El análisis que hemos desarrollado persigue refutar las tesis de Singer a través de argumentos fundamentados en la filosofía moral y la economía. Con toda justicia, el libro de Singer critica que por razones económicas, sanitarias, o de seguridad nacional, inflijamos a los animales una crueldad lacerante. En nuestra opinión, sin embargo, utilizarla para justificar la igualdad entre los animales, incluido el hombre, es un argumento falaz que deberíamos de evitar.

This article undertakes an exhaustive analyses, from top to bottom, of the famous book of Peter Singer Animal Liberation of 1975. From the perspective of moral philosophy, this article criticises the ideas about the treatment of animals, which are developed in that book. The article deliberates on the concept of specism, which Singer defines as a prejudice of mankind against other species, and provides arguments against his opinion on the fact that animals are subject to rights. The analyses that we have developed aims at refuting Singer’s thesis by means of arguments founded on moral philosophy and economics. Rightly, the book of Singer criticises the fact that due to economic, health and national security reasons, we inflict a lacerating cruelty to animals. In our view, however, to use this fact as a basis to justify equality among animals, which includes man, is a fallacious argument that should be avoided.
