    En el presente artículo, de naturaleza documental, se estudia la presencia e influencia de John Dewey en la escuela nueva venezolana. Para ello, se analizan los primeros contactos teóricos que se tuvieran con el pensamiento del pedagogo estadounidense a través de un manual de didáctica del maestro venezolano Alirio Arreaza y de la Revista Pedagógica, medio impreso difusor del ideario de la escuela nueva en el país. También se estudia la implementación que se hiciera en Venezuela de las ideas de Dewey, en lo que respecta a su método y a la instauración de las repúblicas escolares en los centros educativos experimentales.

    In the present article, of documentary nature, the presence and influence of John Dewey in the new Venezuelan school is studied. For this, the first theoretical contacts that were had with the thought of the American pedagogue are analyzed through a didactic manual of the Venezuelan teacher Alirio Arreaza and of the Pedagogical Magazine, half printed diffuser of the ideology of the new school in the country. We also study the implementation in Venezuela of the ideas of Dewey, in regard to its method and the establishment of the republics school in the experimental schools.
