The purpose of this work is the analysis of the STJUE (Second Chamber) of June 2, 2016, Case C-438/14, Nabiel Peter Bogendorff von Wolffersdorff c. Standesamt der Stadt Karlsruhe and Zentraler Juristischer Dienst der Stadt Karlsruhe. The interest is beyond doubt: the CJEU is keen to assert that it is not obligatory for the authorities of a Member State of the EU to recognize the changes of names and surnames containing elements Nobiliars and who, having their own nationals, have been accorded by the national authorities of another Member State, even if they also possess the nationality of that other State, provided that it is shown to be justified on grounds of public policy and is appropriate and necessary to ensure respect for the principle of equality before the law of all citizens of the Member State concerned.
