The article review at a glance the evolution of the European building industry since the end of the First World War until now, highlighting the different behaviors before and after the foundation of the EEC, after the EU and the different results of the targeting shipbuilding policies applied in the Far East, mainly Japan, South Korea and the P.R. of China, and the responses given within the EU, which in half a century brought to the overwhelming majority of the European merchant shipbuilding industry towards a position of irrelevance.
