"Enseguida" e "inmediatamente": creación de adverbios temporales de inmediatez en el español moderno

    Los adverbios temporales utilizados para la indicación de inmediatez en el español actual, enseguida e inmediatamente, son de creación relativamente moderna.Inmediatamente, formado sobre el cultismo inmediato, comienza a usarse en el siglo xv con valor modal, ‘directamente’. Se desplaza al valor temporal desde el siglo xvi, y se hace frecuente a partir del xviii. Enseguida se desliza desde un valor inicial de ‘a continuación’ al temporal de inmediatez. Este proceso comienza en el siglo xviii y se consolida en el xix. El auge de estos dos adverbios está en relación con la pérdida del rasgo de inmediatez por parte de luego, que pasa a expresar simple posterioridad.

    The adverbs used to express temporal immediacy in current Spanish, enseguida e inmediatamente, are relatively new. Inmediatamente, formed on the learned word inmediato, begins to be used in the fifteenth century with the modal value ‘directly’. The displacement to the temporal value takes place in the sixteenth century, and becomes a frequent adverb in the eighteenth century. Enseguida shifts its meaning from the initial value ‘next’ to a meaning of temporal immediacy. This process begins in the eighteenth century and is consolidated in the nineteenth century. The rise of these two elements is related to the loss of the feature of immediacy by the adverb luego.
