The traditional models of communication proposed the articulation between the discursive producer agent, transmitter and recipient. They gave more importance to the discursive producer apparatus and the receiver, but not to the transmitting medium. Today we can affirm that "the medium is the message", to indicate the importance of digital technologies in the media. The media must turn towards digitalization, if they intend to stay alive. A dilemma: who is not in the digital world, is outside the global world. The aim of the paper is to show that digital media generated challenges in the world of information and communication, displacing traditional media. It is based on the theoretical contributions of Teun A Van Dijk, the theory of hypertext and global culture, according to George P. Landow and Blanca Muñoz. Qualitative methodology was used. Changes are required in the conception of journalist and journalistic genres.
