Resumen de Un nuevo espejismo historiográfico: el termalismo castreño prerromano

En este artículo se aborda el estudio del termalismo castreño desde un enfoque arqueológico. Se considera, en consecuencia, que los restos materiales son la fuente principal de la que extraer conocimiento histórico, a partir de un análisis crítico y objetivable. Se han perseguido tres objetivos: el primero, establecer un balance del actual estado de conocimientos del registro material del termalismo castreño; el segundo, someter a crítica los argumentos expuestos en favor de la datación prerromana del fenómeno; el tercero, valorar su supuesta vinculación con una tradición termal de la prehistoria reciente, asociada a prácticas religiosas o iniciáticas. Todo ello nos ha llevado a concluir que el termalismo castreño es un fenómeno circunscrito a ciertos territorios del noroeste de la península ibérica, que necesariamente hay que interpretar como un producto derivado de la influencia ejercida por Roma y del que carecemos de evidencias para presuponer que estuviera revestido de una cierta transcendencia.

The aim of this article is to study the hillfort thermalism from an archaeological point of view. Material remains are considered as a main source in order to draw historical knowledge, making use of a critical and objectifiable analysis. We have pursued three objectives: to establish a general balance of the current state of knowledge of the material remains of this thermalism, to submit to critique the arguments that support a pre-Roman dating for this phenomenon and to make an overall assessment of their alleged links with a thermal tradition of recent Prehistory, associated with religious or initiatory practices. We conclude that hillfort thermalism is a phenomenon limited to certain territories in the Northwest of the Iberian Peninsula, that it must be necessarily interpreted as a product of the roman influence in the region, and finally, that we have no evidence to infer that it has been marked by a certain transcendence .
