La historia del pueblo gitano está sin hacer y es una ocasión para revisar críticamente los paradigmas historiográficos naturalizados en la disciplina. También para plantear investigaciones auténticamente transdisciplinares. Este artículo revisa las aportaciones existentes en dos campos, el de la historia del antigitanismo y el de la formación de los estereotipos culturales sobre «lo gitano». Apuesta también por avanzar más allá de esta historia de las reacciones de la sociedad mayoritaria ante la minoría romaní, pensando la historia gitana desde dentro. Esto supone tanto una tarea de imaginación historiográfica como una preocupación por hacer del conocimiento científico un conocimiento público, abriendo los lugares de enunciación a las comunidades históricamente interpeladas como gitanas.

The history of the Roma/Gypsy people remains to be written and provides an opportunity to critically review naturalized historiographical paradigms in the discipline, as well as to propose authentically cross-disciplinary studies. This article reviews existing contributions in two fields: the history of anti-Gypsyism, and the formation of cultural stereotypes about «Gypsyism». It is also committed to advancing beyond this history of the reactions of the majority society to the Romani minority, by thinking Roma history from within. This involves engaging the historiographical imagination, as well as being concerned with making scientific knowledge public knowledge by opening the places of enunciation to those communities historically interpellated as Roma/Gypsy ones.
