Resumen de TOVIVA Project:: una experiencia en torno al proyecto de defensa de la costa valenciana entre los siglos XVI al XVII

Pablo Rodríguez Navarro

  • The current study focuses on the birth of military architecture in the eastern coast in the sixteenth century, produced mainly by the confluence of a particular social and political context, and aspects of technological development. The idea was very ambitious, because they must build towers or take advantage of existing ones, along the coast of the Valentinian Kingdom, in order to put end, or at least control, the continuous attacks and looting carried out by the Berber pirates. Nowadays all these towers forms an important architectural heritage that has lost its main feature, the unit. And they were built as part a unique defense project, but now we find abandoned both physically and in terms of research effort for its value. The TOVIVA Project (Ref: HAR2013-41859-P), funded by the National Program for Fostering Excellence in Scientific and Technical Research, National Sub-Program for Knowledge Generation, Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (Government of Spain), has documented the existing remains of these constructions, carrying out a comprehensive investigation that is already to present its first conclusions.
