Resumen de ¿Es posible el regreso de la belleza?: estética, belleza y política en el arte contemporáneo

Ante el renovado interés por la estética y el destacado retorno de la belleza en la teoría del arte de las últimas décadas, el propósito de este artículo es analizar y cuestionar algunas de las razones que explicarían su exilio del arte contemporáneo, en concreto las que apuntan a la dimensión estética como alienadora de la acción política. Mi primer objetivo es pues mostrar que la reconsideración de la naturaleza de lo estético y el reconocimiento de la pluralidad de cualidades estéticas evita esa objeción al tiempo que impide calificar al arte contemporáneo de anti-estético. Por otra parte, apelando a las llamadas “bellezas terribles” me centraré en defender que los argumentos que limitan la opción de la belleza en el arte actual tampoco lograrían mostrar por completo el carácter anti-político de esta cualidad estética, por lo que pudiera ocupar un espacio más amplio.

Given the new interest in aesthetics and the acclaimed return to beauty in the theory of art of the last decades, the aim of this article is to analyse and question some of the reasons that would explain their exile from contemporary art, in particular those that suggest that the aesthetic perspective alienates from political action. My first goal is then to show that a review of the nature of the aesthetic and the acknowledgment of the plurality of aesthetic qualities will avoid that objection and at the same time will stop considering contemporary art as anti-aesthetic. On the other hand, looking at the so-called “terrible beauties”, I will defend that the arguments which limit the option of beauty in the art of today do not prove the anti-political character of this aesthetic quality, and for that reason it should not be so restricted.
