The analysis of the relationship between the Poitevin façade-screen and the structure of main body leads to the conclusion that its genesis can be derived from the Carolingian & pre-Romanesque forms of the western entrance to the church, the reduced forms of the Western massif that outlived its time during the XIth Century. The horizontal partition corresponding to the functional dissension of the Western massif into the tier of the entrance & the floor of the tribune-altar in the upper part can be observed in the Airvault Abbey church, completed about 1100. Its façade already bears the basic marks of the façade poitevine, but between it & the main body one can find the two-floor structure of the reduced Western massif. Such a spatial organization is reflected in the horizontal partition of the façade. The vertical tripartition of the façade, stressing the size of the central span & emphasized by the corner turrets with the conoidal roofs covered with the stone imbrication, may have been derived from the Western massif of the non-preserved abbey of Charroux.

L'analyse des rapports entre les façades-écrans poitevines et la structure de la nef révèle leur dépendance génétique par rapport aux structures occidentales carolingiennes et préromanes, prenant la forme au cours du XIe s. de survivances du massif occidental. La bipartition horizontale correspondant à la division fonctionnelle du massif occidental en un porche d'entrée et une tribune-chapelle à l'étage est visible dans l'église abbatiale d'Airvault, terminée vers 1100. Sa façade présente déjà les principaux caractères d'une façade poitevine, mais entre elle et la nef est comprise une structure réduite de massif occidental à deux étages. L'organisation spatiale de cette structure se reflète dans la division horizontale de la façade. La tripartition verticale de la façade, mettant en valeur sa section centrale et accentuée par des clochetons angulaires aux toits coniques en écailles, peut être référée au massif occidental de l'abbatiale démolie de Charroux.
