A través de un análisis diacrónico de la concepción del sufragio desde el liberalismo de los años treinta hasta el restauracionista, veremos cómo desde una visión profundamente elitista los políticos decimonónicos, de uno u otro signo, despreciaban al electorado, al tiempo que se concebían a sí mismos como los líderes naturales de la sociedad. Por su parte, para el electorado, el sufragio era una cuestión práctica y local por la cual podían obtener algún benefcio de un estado por lo demás lejano mediante la competencia política de los diputados. De esta forma, y a pesar de que la elite política no concebía una verdadera representatividad, se acercaba la política a los intereses concretos y locales de la población.

We are going to approach, from a deeply elitist point of view, how the 19th century politicians, from both wings, despised voters, as they considered themselves as the legitimate and natural leaders of society. This view will be developed throughout a diachronic analysis of the suffrage conception from the 1930s Liberalism to the Restoration period. On the other hand, for the electorate, suffrage was a practical and local question by which they could obtain some beneft from a distant state, through the political competence of delegates. This way, despite the fact that the political elite did not believe in a real representation, politics managed to reach the concrete and local interests of the population.
