Este ensayo es sobre la cuestión de la interacción entre Identidad/Otredad en la novela El silenciero (1964), del escritor argentino Antonio Di Benedetto (1922-1986). Comenzamos el estudio desde las reflexiones de J.M. Coetzee y Arabella Kurtz acerca dos tipos de personalidades –la Esquizo-paranoide y la Depresiva- como dos extremos en el desarrollo de los humanos. Luego, focalizamos nuestro análisis en el problema del Otro y los otros –en clave psicoanalítica- en la fábula de la novela de Di Benedetto. Después de aquello, estudiamos temas como las interacciones entre el “Yo” y los otros en El silenciero y la paranoica percepción de la alteridad en el texto. Finalmente, tratamos el problema del lenguaje y los géneros discursivos, en relación con el tema de la Otredad y un posible enlace con las reflexiones iniciales del texto de Coetzee y Kurtz.

This Essay is about the question of the interaction between Identity/Otherness in the novel El silenciero (1964), by the Argentine writer Antonio Di Benedetto (1922-1986).
We begin the study from the reflections by J.M. Coetzee and Arabella Kurtz about two kinds of personalities –the Schizo-paranoids and the Depressives- as two extremes in the development of humans. Then, we focus our analysis in the problem of the Other and the others –in psychoanalytical keys- in the fable of Di Benedetto´s novel. After that, we study topics such as the interactions among the “Ego” and others in El silenciero and the paranoid perception of the Otherness in this text. Finally, we address the problem of language and discursive genres, its relation with the subject of Otherness and one possible link to the initial reflections of the text by Coetzee and Kurtz.
