    Con motivo de la visita del pasado mes de mayo a Vietnam del presidente de EE.UU., Barack Obama, Washington da un paso de enorme significado en las relaciones bilaterales que, si bien hubiera resultado impensable hace apenas dos décadas, a día de hoy ya es todo salvo una sorpresa. Con el levantamiento del embargo sobre la exportación de equipamiento militar de índole letal al Gobierno de Hanói, estas dos naciones, otrora enconadas enemigas, cierran el último capítulo legal del conflicto que les enfrentó, al mismo tiempo que aúnan esfuerzos por lograr un objetivo común de vital importancia para ambas: frenar la expansión china en el sudeste de Asia.

    During his visit to Vietnam last May, the president of the United States, Barack Obama, announced a further step in the bilateral relations with one of America’s former and most bitter foes. By lifting the embargo on the exports of lethal military equipment - something unthinkable roughly a couple of decades ago, but that comes as anything but a surprise nowadays- the United States and Vietnam put an end to the last legal vestige of the conflict that pitted them against each other, bringing them together in a common project of vital importance for both: stopping the Chinese expansion in Southeast Asia
